A Message From Broden

Hello Dear Grouse Houser,

It’s me, Broden Kelly, from the waving sketch in the series Ripper Aussie Summer on the Aunty Donna Youtube Channel.

Thank you so much for joining us on this new shiny platform. We’re very excited to have you here. Have a wander around and see what you like why don’t you.

This is a bit of a passion project for all of us. The first thing that all of us Aunty Donna boys connected over was our mutual love of the comedy shows we grew up watching. We’d stay up late into the night drinking hot cocoa, bonding over bits from Micallef or Lano and Woodley or Kristen Schaal is a Horse on the Melbourne Comedy Festival Gala. From that we started to build our own comedic identity.

As we came through the Australian comedy scene we were lucky enough to meet and observe some of the most brilliant comedians growing and finding their audience around us. Sam Campbell, Becky Lucas, Aaron Chen, Greg Larsen, Michelle Brasier, Rhys Nicholson to name a few. We were constantly blown away by the levels of talent in Australia and New Zealand despite the fact they weren’t ever really been showcased on TV. As Aunty Donna put more and more stuff online (and not really getting our mugs on the telly much), comedy lovers like yourself turned out to our shows and showed us love, letting us know we were on the right track and to keep going.

There’s a bit of rhetoric out there, particularly in the old media, that Australia doesn’t make good comedy anymore. I personally know that couldn’t be further from the truth. We just don’t support them like we did when we were growing up.

That’s why we’re doing Grouse House. As TV and Radio make less and less comedy, we want to make a place that can keep making and showcasing Aussie Comedy. A place for the new awesome comedians and writers to be able to make their own brilliant ideas whilst getting paid and entertaining as many people as possible.

As you can see, we’re clearly in our early stages here, there’s lots of room to grow. We understand that your support from us in the early days on this platform is more of a gesture of support for getting this place up and going and we really appreciate it. In part, consider your subscription to Grouse House as a way to champion and underwrite Aussie comedy. It’s support we greatly appreciate, please take pride in being a part in what we’re creating.

In closing, welcome to Grouse House, I hope we can make something great together.

Cum,

Broden.
