How can one country have so many great comedians and so few comedies? After years of watching our favourite alternative comedians either going broke or moving overseas and becoming famous, we decided the industry needed to change. It did not agree. Fair enough, you do you.
Being equal parts stubborn and optimistic we created Grouse House, a YouTube channel where comedians, writers and directors could make high quality, authentic work that we could deliver to an audience who gets it. Then those creators can leverage this proven success into a goddam career.
YouTube was a great start but is wholly unsustainable. Our desire to commission transgressive comedy brimming with nudes and swears made it difficult to monetise our videos. Whilst the YouTube algorithm, designed to feed the same meat to the same children, struggled with our ‘irregular’ programming hindering growth and experimentation.
All this inevitably led us to Grouse House TV. The little streamer that could. At just $5 a month we know you’ll be saying ‘How is this a viable business model?’ to which we’ll reply ‘fuck you it is’. Also, every single dollar we make off this site will go back into making more cooked content for you, the viewer.
